Sustainability

GCI Group’s commitment to SDGs

To contribute to the achievement of SDGs, we at the GCI Group have identified our most important corporate issues (material issues), and we work to address these issues.

Material issueProtecting the global environment
  • 7.Affordable and Clean Energy
  • 13.Climate Action

In addition to complying with laws and regulations on protecting the environment, we are also working to help create a recycling-based society that encompasses measures to combat global warming.

From the GCI Group CSR Policy “Global Environment”

● Development of continuous energy-saving activities

Since fiscal 2007, when we switched our fuel supply to natural gas, we have been working to make use of various systems including NEDO and ESCO as we have made efforts to reduce our energy consumption and CO2 emissions. As a result, we have for eight consecutive years been ranked as an S Class business operator, the highest class under the business classification evaluation system set out under Japan’s Act on the Rational Use of Energy (known as the Energy Conservation Act). In addition, our CO2 emissions volume for fiscal 2021 was 18% lower than in fiscal 2013 (the reference year used under The Paris Agreement).

● Development of eco-friendly products

In previous years, in the field of chemical products, we have actively taken on the challenge of developing products including thermosetting biomass resin (which is made using plant-based raw materials) for the automotive industry, and environmentally-friendly products for the insulating materials market. Recently, in the field of food products, we have also introduced to the market new oat milk products that create a reduced burden on the environment during their manufacturing process. We are committed to the development of further new products that combine a low environmental impact with superior functionality.
